Teaching is a specialty with Ishmael. His students range in age from seven to seventy two. And his experience speaks for itself. He has conducted songwriting workshops for Booker High School and Manatee Community College, and taught songwriting at Prew Academy as a visiting instructor. From 1998 to 2001 he taught two guitar classes daily for Sarasota High School. And he was Artist in Residence with Sarasota Art's Council for Songwriting for three years. He has taught guitar for Adult and Continuing Education since 1985. He is currently teaching classes on guitar at Sarasota Military Academy, and continues with private students as well.
Ishmael Katz is available for private lessons on guitar (including flat-picking, finger-picking and slide guitar), mandolin, dulcimer, beginning harmonica, beginning bass and singing and songwriting. He teaches blues and
ragtime, folk and country, rock and alternative as well as classical and jazz standards.
He also teaches small classes for these instruments and styles. Lessons are conducted in Ishmael�s home where CD, DVD, VCR , as well as cassette and record players are available.
He is centrally located near Tamiami Trail and Bahia Vista Streets.
His studies include Delta and Piedmont Blues/Ragtime at the Augusta Heritage Center in Elkins, West Virginia. Weekly summer sessions have become his agenda for the past four years, where he has studied with Paul Geremia, Pat Donahue, Del Rey, and David Jacobs-Strain.
