The Jigsaw Jug Band began as a group of friends who "jammed" together every week. They got the idea to start playing street music and thought jug band, ragtime and blues an appealing style. The band then added kazoos as a hand-out to passersby to include their audience, young and old, as part of the band. Jug bands traditionally use everyday objects and make music. With this in mind the band added a washtub bass player and washboard player to the percussion, kazoos, guitars, harmonicas, mandolin and banjo.
After Jigsaw Jug Band was hired to play the Sarasota Folk Clubs monthly Sailing Squadron concert the members decided to begin rehearsing rather than being a "jam" band. In time they all performed at Fogartyville Cafe and on the Main Stage at Sarasota Arts Day. The Jigsaw Jug Band has become a regular and popular attraction at the Sarasota Saturday Downtown Farmers Market. Other venues include The Old Packinghouse Cafe, Metro Coffee and Wine, and Latitudes Coffee House.
The Jigsaw Jug Band has been a delightful addition to private parties, weddings and concerts and is a fun musical feature to book for any occasion.
